What will it cost me?
Whenever you retain lawyer, it is important to understand how you will be charged and how much you are likely to pay for the job you have engaged your lawyer to do. The Law Institute of Victoria's website provides a useful guide on the law governing Legal Costs in Victoria and we suggest you read it if you have never engaged the services of a solicitor before.
At Katz Silver, we prefer to charge our clients in accordance with the applicable Scales of Costs or by fixed fee agreements depending on the work involved. We believe these arrangements are fair and our clients tend to prefer them over “six minute block” costs agreements. However, we are always prepared to negotiate a costs agreement or a discounted fee structure depending on the work you want us to do, your financial situation, or the commercial relationship you wish to establish. For personal legal matters such as wills, powers of attorney, conveyancing, please let us know if you are on a pension and we will do our best to accommodate you with a discounted fee.
For the following basic matters we generally offer fixed fees. If the matter is a bit more complicated we will advise of our charges accordingly.
- Basic Mutual Wills (to my spouse then children): $350 + GST for both
- Powers of Attorney (Enduring Financial, General, Medical, Guardianship): $100 + GST each
- Mutual Powers of Attorney (Enduring Financial, General, Medical, or Guardianship): $150 + GST for both
